About Ashleigh
Ashleigh is an endurance cyclist and race organizer based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
By 2016, with her interest and passion for cycling burning strong, Ashleigh began exploring the world of ultra-distance cycling and from there, there has been no looking back. Not satisfied with merely participating in ultra-distance events, when she couldn’t find any in her adopted home of Nova Scotia, she made her own. The flagship of these events, the Tip 2 Tip Nova Scotia (T2T) is a 1000-1200 km race that spans the entire length of the province. Seeing the interest from the community, Ashleigh then spun-off a smaller sibling event, the LOCOmotion 600: a 600 km event around central NS.
While underway during the 2023 edition of the T2T, Ashleigh began to dream up an ever bigger challenge: a North-to-South “tip to tip” of the entire American continent. While doing more research into this idea, she discovered that, while this route has been completed before, no woman has ever successfully made it to the finish line to claim a Guinness World Record.
For Ashleigh, the draw of endurance and ultra-endurance cycling goes well beyond her desire to ride farther than she thought she could: the camaraderie, support, and sense of community that seem built into this side of the sport are her biggest draws. Beyond those, Ashleigh lists furthering developing of endurance cycling in the Maritimes and helping create a space where anyone who’s curious in taking the step into endurance cycling can feel supported and welcomed.
